5. What does a typical ABA therapy session look like?
Every session is unique because every child is different, however one feature to expect is the RBT will engage your child through play-based activities to teach new skills. Learning should be a joyful experience and that is reflected in how we do therapy!
Unlike other forms of therapy ABA therapy sessions are typically longer in duration, lasting on average two to four hours a day. These sessions are intended to occur daily as well because research shows that a learner’s skills improve most when sessions are consistent.
6. What is a BCBA? What is a RBT?
Can you tell we like acronyms in ABA? The two main people you will work with as part of your learner’s ABA therapy team are the Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and the Registered Behavior Technician (RBT).
The BCBA is the supervisor working with your child’s case; they will be your point of contact for treatment-related questions and concerns. They monitor your child’s progress and develop the ongoing programs being worked on during therapy sessions. In contrast, the RBT is the person who carries out the treatment plan and conducts the day-to-day sessions with your learner.
